About
The Buddhist nun, Pema Chodron spends a great deal of her writing focused on the themes of 'holding on' versus 'letting go'. Maitri is developing unconditional loving-kindness towards ourselves. Chodron explains that "what makes maitri such a different approach is that we’re not trying to solve a problem. We’re not striving to make pain go away or to become a better person. In fact, we’re giving up control altogether and letting concepts and ideals fall apart."
While this happens every day in life, the pandemic made it painfully clear. There were such fewer places to hide from the truth of our lack of control in the world. What we do control is our minds - and the choice to resist and hold on and to accept and let go, let things fall apart.
This gathering will be a chance for us all to reflect on the things that we let go of during the pandemic. Some things we let go of with sorrow, and look forward to it re-entering our lives. Other things, however, we let go of and it created more space for something new and more beautiful - when we let go of some things, we surprisingly found ease and joy.
This Reflection Circle will be a time to listen, share, and discuss our challenges on letting go with each other. We will share what we learned of resistance and acceptance during the past 18 months.
