About

Shame is the feeling that who we are is wrong, broken, or bad in some way. Unlike guilt, which says we have done something bad, shame declares that who we are at our core is bad. Shame is a common response to trauma, conditioning, and hardships that teach us that our authentic self isn't good enough. When shame is showing up in our lives, we might notice a harsh inner dialogue, behaviors like perfectionism, overachieving, and people-pleasing that show up in an attempt to "prove" our worth, and insecurity in places like relationships & career settings. In this series, we will explore making the shift from shame to self-compassion. We will practice getting curious about ourselves instead of being judgemental, practicing patience with ourselves instead of using force and urgency, and developing an inner voice of kindness, acceptance, and compassion instead of cruelty and criticism. This will be a space to bring the shameful feelings we have to light and discover creative ways we can transform that shame into something more supportive.
